BREAST CANCER HISTORY
by Meztli Hernandez
This October is cancer awareness month long ago. Ancient Egyptians were the first to
note the disease more than 3-500 years ago. The condition was described fairly accurately.in both Edwin Smith and George Ebers papyri. One of the descriptions refers to bulging tumors of the breast that have no cure. October 13 is nationally recognized in the United States as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. About 30% of early-stage breast cancers eventually metastasize (spread to parts of the body away from the breast). The day is intended to drive awareness of the need for more research about metastatic disease.
LGBTQ+ History
By Miguel Machado
LGBTQ+ history is a rich and diverse journey marked by both triumphs and struggles. The roots of the LGBTQ+ movement can be traced back to various points in history. In ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece, same-sex relationships were not only accepted but also celebrated. However, with the rise of organized religion, homosexuality became stigmatized, leading to centuries of marginalization and discrimination.
The modern LGBTQ+ rights movement gained traction in the 20th century, with significant milestones shaping the history. The Stonewall Riots in New York City in 1969 are often considered a pivotal moment. LGBTQ+ individuals, tired of constant harassment and arrests, fought back against a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, sparking days of protests. This event ignited a wave of activism and led to the formation of numerous LGBTQ+ organizations advocating for equal rights.
One turning point in LGBTQ+ history occurred in 1973 when the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. This milestone achievement marked a shift in societal attitudes and contributed to increased acceptance and understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity. Legal victories have also been instrumental in LGBTQ+ history. In the year of 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right, granting LGBTQ* couples the same legal recognition and benefits as heterosexual couples. This decision was a culmination of decades of advocacy and represented a significant step forward in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality.
Despite these achievements, challenges persist. Discrimination, prejudice, and violence against LGBTQ+ individuals continue to be prevalent in many parts of the world. However, LGBTQ+ history serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination of the community to fight for their rights and create a more inclusive and equal society for all.

This also still happens in other parts of the world for same-gender marriage to be accepted. People still do this by coloring their faces with paint, and holding flags, while others might march holding a big rainbow flag in the middle of the whole parade.
